#1970S TV THEME SONGS SERIES#
As a benchmark, I include only regularly scheduled network series airing in primetime. As viewers tuned in week after week, these songs earwormed their way into the consciousness of fans, so while you probably can't remember every episode of "The Brady Bunch," it only takes those few opening notes of the theme song for you to know what show is about to start, and you might not remember the name of Mary's boss or where she worked, but you probably know instantly "who can turn the world on with her smile. Often, a shows theme is merely an updated version of an older or less well known song. But network television was the center, and despite the limited options there was always something good to watch. Composer Stu Phillips was a mainstay of the ’70s and ’80s TV theme scene (he also crafted opening songs for The Six Million Dollar Man, Battlestar Galactica, and The Fall Guy, among others. Unfortunately a lot of really great songwriters and musicians died in the 70s to drug overdose and other strange ways to die.
